Background / Content | For the Maranao, the end to the month-long fasting “Bulam Puasa” during Ramadan results in a grand celebration called Kariala. It is here that Kinakulangan is performed. Women dressed in colorful tube skirts (Malong) carry beautifully embroidered and colorfully beaded umbrellas as they move around highlighting the “kini-kini”, the graceful and noble walk of the Maranao women. Meanwhile, the proud bearing of the men are also emphasized in the dance as they assist the women in their performance. |
