14 and 15 March 2019, Chongqing.  The Philippine Consulate General in Chongqing  celebrates its 10th Anniversary of establishment (29 December 2008) in Chongqing by featuring performances by the Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group (ROFG) from the Philippines on 14 March 2019 at the Guotai Arts Center in Yuzhong District and on 15 March 2019 at the Chongqing University in Shapingba District.

The celebration was in partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Chongqing International Exchange Association.

On 14 March 2019, prior to the performance, Post hosted a cocktail reception at the Guotai Arts Center, which was attended by officials of the Foreign Affairs Office-Chongqing and the Chongqing Municipal Government, businessmen, media personnel, students, faculty, and the Filipino community. Also in attendance were the Consuls General of Canada, Israel, and United Kingdom, as well as representatives from the consular corps in Chongqing Municipality and Chengdu.

Mr. Li Qian, the Director General of the Foreign Affairs Office, in his remarks, mentioned that in the past 10 years, the Philippine Consulate General in Chongqing has established exchanges and cooperation with various units of the Chongqing Municipal Government in terms of trade, culture, tourism, and education, among others. He added that Chongqing is willing to work alongside the Philippine Consulate General in taking advantage of the geography in building new land-and-sea channels under the Belt and Road framework.

On the other hand, Mr. Li Yong, the Secretary General of the Chongqing International Exchange Association (CQIEA) observed the increasing frequency of economic, trade, and cultural exchanges between Chongqing and the Philippines, and stated that the CQIEA wish to make greater contributions in the future in terms of business and cultural exchanges with the Philippines.

In Consul General Relacion’s remarks, he thanked everyone who accepted the invitation and joined the Consulate General in the celebration of its 10th anniversary of establishment here in Chongqing. He likewise expressed gratitude to the Chongqing International Exchange Association and the Philippines’ National Commission for Culture and the Arts for partnering with Post. He emphasized the strengthening of the bond between the Philippines and China, especially in the past few years brought about by friendship, mutual cooperation and respect.

The cocktail reception was then followed by the performance of the ROFG, with guests almost filling the 330-seat theater. The show was entitled “Sayaw Pilipino Handog sa Mundo: Best Loved Philippine Folkdances and Songs. The audience was overwhelmed and impressed with the performance of ROFG, enthusiastically applauding after every dance number. By the time of ROFG’s last song, “Maraming Salamat” which was also sang in Mandarin, the audience was enchanted and expressed their desire to witness more performances. The total length of the performance was about 40 minutes. ROFG performance is about 40 minutes.

The next day, 15 March 2015, ROFG brought its performance to the Chongqing University, which received the same reaction from the members of the audience consisting mostly of students.

ROFG Photo5Based on the feedback forms received by the Consulate, out of a total number of 55 members of the audience who responded, 91 percent of them agreed that the presentation was very effective in showing Philippine culture through its folkdances and songs and 94 percent strongly agreed that the performers were very good and that they were satisfied with their performance. Some of them commented that the performance was splendid, fantastic, wonderful and expressed that they loved the show and wished that the performance could be longer than 40 minutes. END
